Floor Activities

  1. Let’s Play Badminton

Date: 18, 21, 25 Jan, 2015          Participants: 12

Competency: Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork; Healthy Living

All students were energetic and actively participated in this activity no matter in the training part or the competition part. Through the instruction and demonstration from the RT Stephy and RA Gatsby, the students learned the basic badminton skills quickly and some of them became the college’s badminton team members of CYTC.

  1. International Cuisine Cooking Contest

Several exchange students joined CYTC family in the 2nd semester. RT Vera invited them and her floor members to come to have a cooking contest. Students learned a lot about international cuisines in this cooking activity. They helped each other to cook the dishes and get to know more about each other. Some students were excited to learn foreign languages such as German and English from the native speakers. All the participants had fun in the activity.

  1. Bowling day

Competency: Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork; Healthy Living

Students learned the basic skills of bowling with a professional coach and experienced the joy of playing bowling, hence improving their health in physically and mentally. RT Seven and RA Kevin organized this activity.

  1. Culture Village

It was a small but lovely gathering. All the participants talked each other about the European culture after watching the Portuguese show and then shared one another’s hometown unique cultures. In the end they also shared their traveling plan for the Goat year.

  1. Thinking Differently: A Different Way to Understand “Social Values” through Gender-Issue Focus of Movie Series

Date: 26 Jan–30 April, 2015 (3 times in total)             Participants: 19

Competency: Cultural Engagement; Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork; Citizenship with Global Perspectives

Students got together to watch 3 movies. They were Brokeback Mountain (USA, 2005), one from the United Kingdom, An Education (2009), and one was, GF*BF (Taiwan,2012). After watching the movies, RT Trista would lead the discussion to let the participants to think more about the meaning of the movies. Prod Jin (金樹人) from FED was also invited to facilitate the talk of the first movie Brokeback Mountain.

We believed the movies and discussions had inspired students to think about gender issues under different cultures and time, how universal values and social values had changed over time, and how those values affected our daily life, choices and behaviours.

  1.  Love in College

In this Love in College series, students had made around 90 paper roses and 50 packs of candy and 50 packs of cookies, and sold rose $8 for each, candy for $5, and cookie for $10. Together with donations, we got Mop1, 400 charities in total. The charity fee was donated to AAPAM (Abandoned Animals Protect Association of Macau). Students in college had enthusiastic response and they felt the love in the college. This event was conducted by our RT Trista.

  1. Global Communication

Competency: Cultural Engagement; Citizenship with Global Perspectives

Exchange students who come from Germany, America and Taiwan were invited to have a dinner discussion with CYTC students. During the activity, the participants gave a brief introduction to their home countries and introduced their country’s dining etiquette. Furthermore, the students shared their experience about study, university of life, dormitory and cultures. All exchange students, local students and mainland students reflected that they learned a lot from this activity. This activity was organized by RT Ted and RA Gatsby.

  1. Visit the Wine Museum and Grand Prix Museum, Tea Tasting in CYTC

Date: 29 Jan, 2015              Participants: 14

Competency: Cultural Engagement

RT Ted led some CYTC residents and exchange students from National Chengchi University of Taiwan to visit the Macau Wine Museum and the Grand Prix museum. After that, all students went back to the college to exchange ideas and thoughts through a Chinese tea tasting section held by the Associate Master, Dr. Zhen. Through this activity, the participants had a basic understanding about the Portuguese wine culture, the history of Grand Prix and the Chinese tea culture.

  1. Friendly Match – Badminton Skills Exchange

Competency: Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork; Healthy Living

To enhance the friendship between the students of CYTC and the students from National Chengchi University of Taiwan, RT Ted organized a friendly badminton match. All participants showed their passion during the match. It was a great opportunity to make new friends. Many students reflected that this activity made them relieve from the stress of studying.

  1. Five-in-a-row Tournament

Date: 2 Feb, 2015                Participants: 16

Competency: Cultural Engagement; Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork

This activity successfully brought two floor members together. Some of them didn’t know one another before and after this event, they had more chances to talk and get to know each other. In addition, it’s good to let students to get familiar with traditional chess culture and had to think more before they moved to the next step.  This activity was held by RT Yao Di and RA Echo.

  1. Spring Festival Gathering

The participants shared their family and hometown custom of Spring Festival.  To make dumplings in the Spring Festival is a tradition of northern China. Hence, the participants had the chance to learn how to make dumpling through this event. At the end of this activity, they cooked many dumplings and shared with other group members.

  1. Coffee and Love SalonHandicraft Workshop

All students made at least one handicraft by themselves. They improved their creativity by doing DIY and this activity enhanced their friendship by helping each other to finish the art works. This workshop was held by our RA Echo.

We invited our non-resident fellow, Dr. Lam (from FED) to facilitate this talk and this talk was held in a cozy cafe on campus. All the participants in the activity built a closer relationship with others and open their heart to discuss the theme. Of course, they enjoyed their coffee.

  1. 14.  Spring Outing in Coloane              

Date: 8 March, 2015     Participants: 10

During the trip in Coloane Village, the participants visited both church and temples, which showed the east and the west culture interaction in Macao. Through RT Stephy’s explanation, the participants learned the legend of Tangong (譚公) and the basic procedure of the celebration of Tangong’s birthday.

  1. 15.  Visit MGM MACAU Red Sandalwood Art Exhibition of Old Beijing City Gates

Our AM, Dr. Zhen gave a content-rich talk about the Red Sandalwood during the way to the MGM. In addition, the guides in MGM also told the participants a lot about the Red Sandalwood and Red Sandalwood Museum. Students were very interested in the exhibition, especially the structures of the model of the Temple of Heaven.

  1. Appreciate the Chinese Tea Ceremony

RT Seven invited a lecturer Ms. Li who got a bachelor degree in tea culture and was very professional in tea ceremony. A brief introduction of the Chinese tea culture was given during this activity. Participants in the activity learned the basic knowledge of making tea and the tea ceremony skills.

  1. Easter Bunny DIY Workshop

Easter is a traditional western holiday. The brief introduction of this holiday let the participants know basic knowledge and background of Easter. And the workshop organizer, our RA June taught the participants how to make DIY bunnies by sewing the felted wool. They were quite interested in activity and during the workshop, they communicated with each other to learn how to do the bunny.

  1. Chess competition

RA Zheng Lin invited Resident Fellow, Dr. Tang Yu Ming to introduce the history of Wei Chi(圍棋) in China and Japan. Teacher Tang also introduced some modern chess games invented in Germany. The participants reflected that they were fascinated with the story about Wei Chi culture.

 

  1. 19.  Let’s Play Table Tennis

Date: 14 April, 2015             Participants: 27

Competency: Health Living; Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork

27 participants in the activity learned multi-skills for playing table tennis. Three-hour exercise helped participants’ experience healthy living. In addition, participants in mixed doubles developed their teamwork and communication skills. This was a joint activity conducted by our 4 RT/RAs. They were Vera, Mia, Smoker and Ted.

  1. Bubble Soccer

Date: 22 April, 2015          Participants: 12

Competency: Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork; Healthy Living

Bubble soccer is a special sports that is different from others. Tall guys get advantage in basketball, quick guys get advantage in soccer. However, in bubble soccer, everyone gets advantage as long as they put effort on the game. All participants had to cooperate with each other. Hence this event improved their interpersonal skills during this new exciting sports. Our RA Antony organized this activity.

  1. Enjoy Japanese Culture and Movie

Competency: Cultural Engagement; Citizenship with Global Perspectives

Through the activity, the participants got a basic understanding of ritual mortician and the traditional culture behind this career and they have learnt some basic features about Japanese films and life in Japan. This film gathering was held by our RA Jenny.

 

  1. Bowling Activity

Our RA Jenny and Kay invited one professional bowling coach, Mr. Zheng to come to teach students (Coach Zheng is a professional bowling coach who has many experiences of teaching bowling. He is engaged in bowling for more than 10 years, and he taught bowling as well). Students thought this activity was interesting and meaningful. They got a basic idea of how to play bowling, making friends with students from other floor and became eager to do exercise.
