Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC) held the successful exchange resident program with Taiwan Chengchi University (CCU) from January 15th to 21st. All 10 students from CCU had learned a lot and enjoyed their staying with CYTC residents in the University of Macau.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding on a Program of Exchange Students between Chengchi Colleges and Cheng Yu-Tung College signed in May, 2014, the program was officially taken place the first time in December 2014 and January 2015. This is the third year and 10 selected CYTC students visited CCU from December 18th to 24th, 2016 led by our staff, Steven Chan. The students took some courses in X college, Liberal Arts College, Freshman College and as well as exploring “The Past and Present Life Style of Taiwanese Common People” with CCU students. The 10 students took courses such as philosophy, creativity and design workshop, poetry reading class, cross-strait relation lecture, drum- beating workshop and so on. They visited some well-known and historical military kindred villages and talked to people who work or live there, trying to understand one of the most precious cultures in Taiwan.

After that, 10 CCU students visited UM in Jan. 2017 led by the Fellow of Freshman College, Mr. Chan Liwei, staying in CYTC, participating in various programs initiated by the College, the Floor and House Association and thoroughly experiencing the College life here. CYTC held the High Table Dinner, 3 lectures and talks of “Portuguese Colonialism in Macau”, a Portuguese dessert baking workshop, a movie discussion of “Echoes of the Rainbow” which is also about colonialism and so on. Special thanks shall be given to Prof. Tang Kai-Jian from History Department and Prof. Zhang Mei- Fang from English Department. Prof. Tang gave a wonderful speech covering the history and development of the Catholicism in Macau for 500 years and Prof. Zhang gave an interesting speech on the translation and stories of Macau historical sites, which both attracted over a hundred audience and the participants had a better understanding of this city.

In the activity Crisscrossing Exchange of Residential Life: Macau and Taiwan on January 20th, several students shared their ideas and analyzed the difference between the two universities and showed the video clips of common life and residential life in Macau and Taipei. Students of the two Colleges unquestionably built up very close relationship after the exchange program. Most of them were truly touched by the hospitality and warmth from CYTC and vice versa. Two Colleges agreed the exchange program will be continued next year and hopefully some community service or project-based elements will be put in so as to strengthen the quality of exchange programs.
