1. Retreat for the 2nd session of CYTC House Association

Competency: Leadership and service; Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork

The retreat for 2nd session of CYTC House Association served the following purposes:

  1. Review the learning and experience gain from the organizing activities in the academic year of 2014/15
  2. Review the resource allocation for House Association.
  3. Enhancement of operation, suggestion for the academic year 2015/16.
  4. Suggestion on the Hand-over list for the 3rd session of the House Association.
  5. Thank you for the hard work and cooperation for HA of the academic year 2014/2015

2. Seminar: What Qualities Should Those in Business Possess, in Addition to Knowing How to Do Calculation?

Professor Chung Ling, the Master of Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC), invited 6 financial specialists to deliver a seminar on the topic of “What Qualities Should Those in Business Possess, in Addition to Knowing How to Do Calculation?” for students. The financial specialists includeMr. Leong Ka-Chai (OBE SBS JP), former Chairman of the Hong Kong Futures Exchange (HKFE), Dr. Lewis Chan, Managing Partner of Mauna Kai Capital Partners (Hong Kong) Limited, Professor Lam Kin, Emeritus Professor of Hong Kong Baptist University, Mr. John Fung, Senior Investment Manager, Roctec International Limited, Ms. Joyce Ng, Partner and Senior Portfolio Manager, Sumeru Capital, etc.

Professor Chung Ling also hosted a Master’s dinner before the seminar starts. She had invited the financial specialists, academic staff as well as the students. Students also had the opportunity to talk to the specialists, ask questions and share their thoughts.

3. College Activity: The Voice of Da Ya

Competency: Cultural Engagement, Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork

To promote the spirit of Da Ya (Cultural Refinement) and figure out the singing talent of CYTC students, a singing context entitled The Voice of Da Ya had held at Dining hall of CYTC. There were two round of competition namely preliminary round (20/9) and final round (21/9). Four prizes were presented for the best male performer, female performer, group performer and atmosphere initiator. The prizes winners had been performed at the quarter of Master Chung during the mid-Autumn Festival gathering (27/9).

4. High Table Dinner of CYTC in the 1st Semester of 2015/16 (Sept. 2015)

High table dinner of CYTC in the 1st Semester of 2015/16 was successfully held and CYTC invited Guest speaker Mr. Ieong Tou Hong, the Consultant of the Research Centre for Sustainable Development Strategies of the Government of Macao SAR, the member of the Economic Development Committee of the Government of Macao SAR, and the member of the Chief Executive Selection Committee of Macao SAR, member of CPPCC Guangdong Province, etc. Mr. Ieong Tou Hong shared an interesting talk “An analysis upon the Prospects of Tourism Industry of Macao and the Bay Area of the Pearl River Estuary”. Students all enjoyed the wonderful time dinning together.

5. Writer in Residence – Dr. Ge Liang

Date: 2015/10/16-20

Competency: Cultural Engagement, Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork

A renowned  Chinese writer, Dr. Ge Liang had stayed in Cheng Yu Tung College for 4 nights (Oct 16-20, 2015) as Writer-in-Residence. During his stay, he had delivered one seminar and two fiction writing workshops. In the workshops, Mr. Ge tutored students’ writing skills, commented on several novels written by students and encouraged them to keep writing in order to become better writers. The activity also cultivated students’ abilities of cultural engagement. Master’s dinner had been arranged alongside the seminar, which provided opportunity for students to communicate with distinguished writer, learn from his precious knowledge and experience. He was also invited to be the high table guest of the High Table Dinner on Oct 18, so as to share his experiences and knowledge with the CYTC students.

6. High Table Dinner of CYTC in the 2nd Semester of 2015/16 (Oct. 2015)

High table dinner of CYTC in the 2st Semester of 2015/16 was successfully held. CYTC invited Prof. Simon Ho, the President of Hang Seng Management College in Hong Kong, as well as the former Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) of UM. Prof. Ho shared an interesting talk “Critical Thinking and Start with Why: A Story of the Swimming Trunk.” Students all enjoyed the wonderful evening gather together and the delicious dinner.

7. Seminar: Architecture and Meditation by Ms. Corrin Chan

Date: 2015/11/18

Competency: Cultural Engagement, Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork

Ms. Corrin Chan, the Chairman of Hong Kong Architecture Centre was invited to give a seminar on CYTC Collegiate Learning Day. Ms. Corrin Chan delivered a seminar “Architecture and Meditation” which is related to her profession, with a touch of life and nurturing youngsters’ minds; this matches with one of CYTC’s goals- Noble Aspiration. Master’s dinner had also been arranged alongside the seminar, which provides opportunities for students to communicate with distinguished architect, learn from her precious knowledge and experience.

8. Labor Education Program (1st Semester of 2015/2016)

Date: 2015/11    Participants: all students in CYTC

Competency: Cultural Engagement, Interpersonal Relationship and Teamwork

In order to enhance the students’ self-discipline, sense of responsibility, maintaining a good hygiene, the Student Labor Program was carried on for all the residents of CYTC.  The Resident Tutors (RT) and Resident Assistants (RA) have been trained and they are responsible on teaching the CYTC students on the techniques and tips of cleaning rooms and rest-rooms. Students with distinguished cleaning results had been be awarded coupons, while those who continuously have a result below standard had been assigned additional duties on cleaning, so as to improve their senses and skills on keeping good hygiene.

9. SAGE102 Final Project_DAYA Fair

Competency: Global Citizenship, Cultural Engagement, Healthy Living, Interpersonal Relations and Teamwork, Leadership and Service

DAYA Fair provided an opportunity for year one students to communicate to others and share their learning experiences of their SAGE102 course, through designing and holding different activities booths together in the college. The activities were all related to interpersonal relationship and teamwork, citizenship with global perspectives or healthy living.

10. High Table Dinner of CYTC in 2015/16 (Nov. 2015)

High table dinner of CYTC in November 2015/16 was successfully held. CYTC invited Prof. Haydn Chen, the Vice Rector (Student Affairs) of UM who shared a talk “Educated and Civilized”. Students all enjoyed the interesting talk and wonderful moments gathering together!

11. Poetry Recital for the 1st semester of 2015/2016

Competency: Global Citizenship, Interpersonal Relations and Teamwork

Poetry recital is a regular activity of Cheng Yu Tung College. Cheng Yu Tung College invited 4 well-known poets, Wu Yin Ching, Ling Ku, Wong Leung Wo and Un Sio San, from Hong Kong and Macau to read poems again with our students on November 8th. The writers and students recited the poems during the recital. In order to provide more opportunity for the students to communicate with the poets, an dinner had been provided. Our students also impressed the poets by their sensitive and touching performance. Students and poets also had an in-depth discussion.

12. Student Exchange Program – Taiwan National Chengchi University 2015

Date: 2015/12/20

In the new academic year of 2015/16, Cheng Yu-Tung College and the Chengchi College from Taiwan National Chengchi University SENT10 students to each other for an exchange program. The students will stay in the host college for 7 days.

The exchange program offers a wide range of benefits for our students.  CYTC students exposed to a different culture, different thinking and a different way of doing things, as well as gaining excellent experiences and expanding their social and cultural understanding. The exchange program also provided an opportunity for the students to improve their language skills.
